Two years after launching Givenchy as a label of simple, light separates, Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy debuted a full ready-to-wear collection.
The Frenchman with a history at Balenciaga developed a legendary designer/muse relationship with style icon Audrey Hepburn, who became the first actress to star in a perfume marketing campaign.
Other famous fans of the House include Lauren Bacall, Jackie O and Grace Kelly. In recent years, the house has slowly taken a turn towards the dark and dramatic after stints of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. Riccardo Tisci continues down this road as fashion critics call his aesthetic “gothic ballerina”.
