A call control service management engine with embedded IVR support that seamlessly integrates into any softswitch platform via the SIP or H.323 protocols and communicates to any AAA application via RADIUS protocol.

The I-Master Application Server provides interoperability, full carrierclass scalability and full fail-over support to any 3rd party next generation network (NGN) softswitch platform on the market today. Specifically, it interfaces with SIP or H.323 and provides the foundation for carriers to leverage RADIUS protocol for Authorization, Authentication and Administration (AAA) functions without displacing existing billing and authentication applications. The solution is also ideal for providers currently offering data services who want enhance their offerings by adding VoBB services but, need to maintain existing billing systems.

Call control and interoperability

By functioning as a central call control and supplementary service management engine regardless of softswitch technology, the I-Master Application Server offers standards-based interface using SIP as well as H.323 to 3rd party softswitches and RADIUS servers for upstream AAA functions. Additionally, it can provide call control and IVR functionality for prepaid platforms. The I-Master Application Server manages all calls from set up to tear down and interoperates with the softswitch via SIP or H.323 protocol. Additional functionality includes an embedded software based media server for network announcements, PIN collection, recharge, and balance transfer. In addition, the Application Server includes a robust RADIUS stack for real time authentication functionality with an external billing system and can support call flows from multiple softswitches simultaneously.

With this interoperability and functionality, Verso brings to market the critical features and functions demanded by operators to increase revenues as well as strengthen market share while preserving prior investments in existing network infrastructure. The I-Master Application Server provides:

• SIP or H.323 interface to any 3rd party softswitch platform.
• RADIUS interface to AAA applications (including Verso I-Master Prepaid Application).
• Embedded IVR support for single or two stage dialing as well as account recharge, balance transfer and CallBack.
• When deployed with the I-Master Prepaid Application, concurrent usage on a single prepaid account is supported using a preauthorization process against the account balance.

Scalability and flexibility

The I-Master Application Server grows seamlessly, supporting as many or as few calls as needed, and it easily scales when additional capacity is required. A single I-Master Application Server can also provide support for multiple applications within a single network design.

Service creation, configuration and management

The I-Master Application Server includes a Graphical User Interface(GUI) management tool for the creation and administration of Call Flows, which are event-based and include an extensive library of tools. Additionally, service providers may create XML-based events to support unique actions within a call flow that may not be available via the default events. Multiple call flows may be supported simultaneously based on incoming IP address, trunk group or domain. Unique prompts may also be played based on the user's identity or personal preferences.

The I-Master Application Server can be deployed, configured, and managed remotely using the Verso Clarent Element Management System (CEMS), the web-based tool used for provisioning and managing all components of the Verso network. At a component level, the I-Master Application Server supports SNMP with comprehensive management information base (MIB). This allows for setting configuration parameters, poll devices for performance statistics, check status information, and receive alarms, if faults occur.

The I-Master Application Server operates on the Solaris operating system on highly reliable SUN hardware and may be deployed in N+1 configuration for fault tolerant environments.
