Every September, the wardrobe rewrites itself, and honestly? We can't wait to read the next chapter. This year, the plot has just four twists, chosen not because they are new, but because they are right: leather with attitude, a single unapologetic red, the quiet drama of feathers, and leopard, the wild card.
In Leather We Trust
This season, there's one piece that keeps showing up everywhere that matters: the leather trouser. Whether it's the real thing or a vegan alternative, the fabric is almost beside the point; what matters is the cut, sharp at the waist, fluid through the leg, engineered to survive a trend cycle.
Bottega Veneta offers its leather trousers in a deep bordeaux, a colour that feels rich and autumnal. Toteme keeps it simple with a straight-leg style in black, easy to wear and easy to style. MM6 Maison Margiela brings a vegan leather option in khaki, with the house's signature deconstructed details. The Frankie Shop rounds it out with a versatile pair that works from the office to dinner.
Think of them as the new denim: dress them up with a silk blouse, dress them down with a chunky knit, and let bare ankles do the rest once the weather allows.
Seeing Red
Forget the safety of black. The power color this season is a single, confident red: one skirt, one jacket, one dress doing the work an entire outfit used to do. Prada shows how it's done with a red satin skirt, finished with a red Re-Nylon pouch for those who let the bag do the talking. Ami Paris takes the color into outerwear with a red jacket that reads as tailored rather than trend-driven, and Magda Butrym brings her signature romanticism to a red dress that does what her label does best: femininity with edge.
Feather Light
The season's most romantic texture is back, and it's not saving itself for the evening anymore. Think feathers at a cuff, a collar, a hem: small flashes of movement that catch the eye before anything else does.
Blumarine's ribbed wool sweater keeps it casual, with feathers finished at the collar for a knit that flirts with drama without losing its everyday charm. Fabiana Filippi takes it further with a taupe shift dress trimmed with feathers at the bottom. The same soft palette appears in a draped top, finished with a beaded knot at the shoulder. Gucci takes a different route: an off-the-shoulder top in black rib viscose, fuzzy-trimmed rather than feathered, but clearly speaking the same language. Fendi rounds it out top to toe, a wool blouson finished with a curly shearling collar above and the Fendi Noir heel below, proof the trend has fully left the red carpet behind.
Wild Card
Leopard print used to come with rules: one piece, worn carefully, never two at once. This season those rules don't apply. It shows up in wool, in charmeuse, on the feet, and none of it asks for permission.
Dolce&Gabbana leans all the way in with a full leo-print lineup: a charmeuse dress for evenings that want a bit of drama, a wool cardigan and wool vest for layering over jeans or a suit, and wool trousers that hold their own against any neutral in the closet. Amina Muaddi finishes the look with the Dalida platform sandals, turning the print into something closer to architecture than animal.
There's no need to overthink it: one leopard piece, worn against something quiet, says everything it needs to.
